Update Video: First Look The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story

How do you top a phenomenon like last year’s The People v. O.J. Simpson? Opulence, sex and Ricky Martin, naturally. Those are just a few of the elements viewers can expect when The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story premieres in early 2018, focusing on the tragic killing of the fashion titan (Martin plays his long-time love Antonio D’Amico). FX’s follow-up to Simpson, featuring the same team of executive producers including Ryan Murphy, Brad Simpson and Nina Jacobson, won’t premiere for months but EW was exclusively on the set in May as the cast shot in Versace’s former home, Casa Casuarina. “It was very moving, sometimes disturbing,” says Penelope Cruz, who plays Gianni’s sister Donatella, of shooting in the house. “We all felt a very powerful energy. It just made me have more passion to tell this story.”

‘Point Break’ makes BASE jumping history

IMG_3884

And now, director of the newest incarnation of Point Break, Ericson Core, said he hopes to bring the film into 2015.

“Many of the extreme sports we’re presenting in the film were not even dreamed of at the time the first Point Break was made, so it’s a little bit more expansive. And it’s definitely the sports of today rather than the sports of the beginning of the ‘90s,” Core told GrindTV.

No CGI was used in the film, which required lots of preparation and led to a historical BASE jumping stunt.

Five wing-suited pilots navigated the crack in Walenstadt, Switzerland, for a scene in which Bodhi and his band of outlaws cut loose a huge pile of cash above a poverty-riddled town. Continue reading “‘Point Break’ makes BASE jumping history”

POINT BREAK: Climbing Angel Falls – Behind the Scenes

IMG_3884

Who needs CGI when you have Chris Sharma and Dani Andrada as stuntmen? Watch these guys climb alongside 3,200-foot Angel Falls in Venezuela—the tallest waterfall in the world—in this exclusive rock climbing behind-the-scenes from the new Point Break. All climbing stunts in the film were done in real life—no CGI, no green-screen.

Sharma, who doubles as a climber for Johnny Utah (Luke Bracey), calls the filming experience on Auyan Tepuy, site of Angel Falls, “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” in a previous interview with Rock and Ice. “Auyan Tepuy is one of the most amazing places I’ve ever been.”

Andrada, of Spain, doubles as the other climber for Bodhi (played by Edgar Ramirez)—nemesis to lawman Utah. Continue reading “POINT BREAK: Climbing Angel Falls – Behind the Scenes”
