Edgar Ramírez nació en San Cristobal el 25 de marzo de 1977. Su infancia transcurrió en múltiples países, lo que le permitió aprender a hablar con fluidez los idiomas inglés, alemán, italiano y francés, además de su lengua materna, español. Estudió Comunicación Social en la Universidad Católica Andrés Bello, en Caracas, donde comenzó a explorar su faceta artística actuando en diversos cortometrajes estudiantiles.
En el año 2000, antes de dedicarse por completo a la actuación, Edgar fue el director ejecutivo de una campaña titulada Dale al Voto, que buscaba fomentar los valores democráticos en la juventud y era auspiciada por una ONG venezolana.
En el año 2002, Edgar alcanzó la fama en su país interpretando al personaje Cacique, en la telenovela Cosita Rica, producida por el canal venezolano Venevisión. La producción se mantuvo al aire desde septiembre de 2003 hasta agosto de 2004, durando 270 capítulos. Durante ese tiempo, también se estrenaron dos películas en las que obtuvo el rol protagónico: Yotama se va Volando y Punto y Raya. Ésta última sería la representante de Venezuela ante los Premios de la Academia (Oscar) de ese año.
Tras su debut en el cine venezolano, a Edgar se le presentó una gran oportunidad en Hollywood. En 2005 protagonizó la cinta norteamericana Domino, del director Tony Scott, en donde interpretaba al novio de Domino Harvey (Keira Knightley).
Durante 2006 se estrenaron en Venezuela otros dos filmes en los que figuraba como actor principal: El Don de José Ramón Novoa y Plan B de Alejandro Wiedemann.
Para 2007, su internacionalización como actor era un hecho consagrado: el mundo entero lo vio en el papel de Paz, un asesino que persigue a Matt Damon en la película The Bourne Ultimatum, la más reciente entrega de la saga de Jason Bourne.
En 2008 llegaron a las carteleras de cine dos grandes proyectos cinematográficos en los que el actor era nuevamente noticia: Cyrano Fernández, dirigida por el venezolano Beto Arvelo, en el que personificó a Cyrano y además ejerció el rol de productor; y Vantage Pointe, dirigida por Pete Travis, y en donde compartió con actores como Dennis Quaid, Forest Whitaker, Eduardo Noriega y William Hurt.
Desde entonces, Edgar Ramírez se embarcó en otros dos proyectos ambiciosos e importantes para el público latinoamericano: Che, de Steven Soderbergh e Ilich: The story of Carlos, film en el que interpreta al terrorista venezolano trabaja con el director francés Olivier Assayas.

Edgar Ramirez was born in San Cristobal on March 25, 1977. His childhood was spent in multiple countries, which allowed him to learn to speak fluent English, German, Italian and French, besides their mother tongue, Spanish. He study Social Communication at the University Católica Andrés Bello in Caracas, where he begin to explore their artistic side by acting in various student films.
In 2000, before turning to acting , Edgar was the executive director of a campaign Dale al Voto, that seeks to promote democratic values in youth and was sponsored by a Venezuelan ONG.
In 2002, Edgar rise to fame in his country interpreting Casique the character in the soap Cosita Rica, produced by the Venezuelan channel Venevisión. Edgar Ramírez apoya la campaña «No Dispares» (Don’t Shoot), por Amnistía Internacional. Una organización contra la violencia, cuyo esfuerzo es eliminar el número de lesiones y muertes causadas por el uso irresponsable de armas de fuego.
Ramírez también fue parte de «5 Sentidos en Acción», una organización que beneficia a niños con necesidades especiales. El 13 de julio de 2008, Ramírez participó de una actividad al aire libre, lo que estimuló la experiencia sensorial a través de gestos, tocando y cantando para los niños necesitan especial que son sordos o ciegos debido a una enfermedad congénita causada por los virus del medio ambiente.
Apoyar la campaña y luchar con #HeForShe (ONU Mujeres) por la igualdad de género.

Edgar Ramirez supports the campaign “No Dispares” (Don’t Shoot), by Amnesty International. An organization against violence, whose effort is to eliminate the number of injuries and deaths caused by the irresponsible use of guns.
Ramirez was also part of «5 Senses in Action», an organization which benefits children with special needs. In July 13, 2008, Ramirez took part of an outdoor activity, which stimulated sensory experience through gestures, playing and singing for special need children who are deaf and/or blind due to a congenital condition caused by environmental viruses.
